George McGovern Is Still Alive?

Not only is George McGovern alive, he still knows next to nothing about the Constitution. McGovern was the Democrat’s “peace” candidate in the 1972 Presidential elections, much like Obama is today. In the elections, Richard Nixon crushed McGovern by 23.2% in the popular vote. Nixon won every state but one, Massachusetts. McGovern lost even in his home state of South Dakota.

The massive defeat must have scrambled his brains permanently. In a rambling incoherent op-ed in the Washington Post, McGovern argues that George Bush and Dick Cheney should be impeached. If you did not live through the 1960s and think there can be no greater lunatics than moveon.org and the Kos nutroots, read and learn.

Bush and Cheney are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses. They have repeatedly violated the Constitution. They have transgressed national and international law. They have lied to the American people time after time. Their conduct and their barbaric policies have reduced our beloved country to a historic low in the eyes of people around the world. These are truly “high crimes and misdemeanors,” to use the constitutional standard.

From the beginning, the Bush-Cheney team’s assumption of power was the product of questionable elections that probably should have been officially challenged — perhaps even by a congressional investigation.

Class Action Litigation Mania

Q: Why does a snake not bite a lawyer?

A: Professional courtesy.

As the Roman empire declined, the number of lawyers in the capital grew exponentially. The provinces discovered that they could sue for favors in Rome and the Romans learned that they could get rich pleading cases. Did the preponderance of lawyers cause the collapse of the empire? We’ll never know, but a similar thing seems to be happening today in the United States.

The instant share-prices of a company decline, for any reason whatsoever, the vultures swoop down to feed. They advertise for shareholders to join class action lawsuits designed to enrich the lawyers. Each individual action may or may not be frivolous, however, cumulatively, these lawsuits create a massive overhead cost to society. The end result is that billions of dollars are transferred from consumers, who buy the products and services of the target companies, to the lawyers.

As if Countrywide Financial Corporation does not have enough problems (caused primarily by macro economic forces), now the company has to defend a class action lawsuit filed by Shepherd, Finkelman, Miller & Shah LLC.

How Cultural Sensitivity Killed Banaz Mahmod

Mahmod Mahmod was found guilty in the honor killing of his 20 year old daughter (Telegraph June 11, 2007).

A father of a 20-year-old woman who was killed and buried in a suitcase under a patio was today found guilty of her murder.

Banaz Mahmod was strangled in a so-called “honor” killing after her family disapproved of her relationship with her boyfriend.

Her father Mahmod Mahmod and his brother Ari Mahmod ordered the murder because they believed she had shamed the family.

A number of police officers are facing an internal disciplinary investigation over the handling of the case after it emerged that Miss Mahmod had told police four times that she feared for her life.

She even wrote a letter naming those she thought would do it – one of whom later admitted his part in the killing.

The Scotland Yard is facing severe criticism (Telegraph June 12, 2007).
