Tawfik Hamid was born in Egypt to what he describes as a secular family. Islam was always part of life, but as he grew up he became increasingly involved with the Salafi movement. Reading the Koran regularly made him want to do Jihad and conquer infidels. He was well on his way to Shahida (martyrdom), but pulled back in the nick of time. He tells about his journey in a must read article republished in The Jerusalem Post. Selected paragraphs, dealing with the impact of the Koran on Hamid’s young mind, appear below. When I was nine, I learned the following Koranic verse during one of our Arabic lessons: “But do not think of those that have been slain in God’s cause as dead. Nay, they are alive! With their sustainer have they their sustenance. They are very happy with the reward they received from Allah [for dying as a shahid] and they rejoice for the sake of those who have not joined them [i.e., have not yet died for Allah]” (Koran 3:169-70).

It was the first time I was exposed to the concept of shahid (martyr), and naturally, I began to dream of becoming one. The thought of entering paradise very much appealed to me. There I could eat all the lollipops and chocolates I wanted, or play all day without anyone telling me to study.

No matter how much the AFP reporter tries to disguise it as an employment and integration issue, Sweden has a big problem. Even though refugees entering the country receive full welfare benefits immediately on arrival, the Swedes blame themselves for the high levels of juvenile delinquency among the Muslim youths. The title of the AFP article is intentionally deceptive: Sweden struggles to integrate Muslim immigrants.

Sweden has welcomed immigrants with open arms for decades but now it is grappling with how to integrate them into society, especially in the southern town of Malmoe amid a massive influx of refugees.

Once a thriving industrial town with full employment, Malmoe has seen many of its plants shut down since the 1990s. That, combined with a never-ending stream of foreigners arriving, has led to rising juvenile delinquency and rampant unemployment.

Of the town’s 280,000 inhabitants, a third are foreigners and 60,000 are Muslims.

Two thousand gays and lesbians organized a parade in the world’s only Jewish Holy City. Orthodox Jews who live there decided to stop them. Has there ever been a Gay Pride Parade in a Muslim city? Mecca? How about Teheran? Baghdad? Cairo? Karachi? If you answered no, no, no, no, and no, consider yourself well informed.

In the interview Dana was the aggressive lesbian. For balance Channel 10 presented a ‘moderate’ lesbian who claimed that the parade can be held in Tel-Aviv, but she wasn’t sure.
