Answer:  Any day in which Ophir Pines resigns from politics is an Israeli national holiday!

Ophir Pines is a politician whom I really love to hate. He is an obnoxious leftist McCarthyist. He led the Labor Party’s campaign against freedom of speech for anti-Oslo dissidents. After Rabin’s assassination, Pines led each and every Labor Party attempt to indict members of the political opposition for supposedly being collectively guilty of Rabin’s death, and he led the camp claiming that exercise of freedom of speech by Right-wingers was what ultimately produced the Rabin assassination. He repeatedly filed court petitions against Righists expressing opinions.

Pines was considered until yesterday, when he resigned from the Knesset, to be the up-and-coming Young Turk, the Bonnie Prince Churly, and next-generation-leader of the Labor Party. He had come in at the very top of Labor Party internal primaries. This – in spite of his total absence of charisma and his lack of any sense of humor. Pines looks like a young Montgomery Burns, and has yet to be seen cracking a smile.

“Pines” is actually a common name for German Jews. It is however pronounced in German and Hebrew, and I kid you not about this, “Penis.” Some members of the clan spell the name as it sounds, making their peace with the jokes. Others, including young Ophir, prefer the PG spelling – PINES. In any case, his name is pronounced Offer Penis, and for many years I respond to anyone mentioning his name with, “Sure, just not my own.” Wouldn’t it be cool if he had married a woman named Fanny Prostate?

So just what induced Prince Penis to abandon the Labor Party? I think the answer is pretty clear.  Rodents never stay aboard sinking ships. The Labor Party has sunk from a hegemonic single-party ruling class, running the state all on its own, to squeezing into the last Knesset as the 4^th largest power. It is possibly about to split into two even smaller splinters.

The Labor Party has very simply been completely wrong about nearly every single matter on which it has taken a public stand. First and foremost, of course, the Labor Party bears direct responsibility for the Oslo debacle and all the existential damage it has done to the Jewish people. It has come to my attention that the boycott of the Toronto Film Festival for featuring Tel Aviv has been defeated by people who bought up all the tickets, at least the ones online.  If more tickets are available, be sure to buy them and fill the theaters.

If we can make this the most successful film festival ever, that would be a real victory.

Officer Shahar Mizrachi is the latest victim of the leftist assault on Israel via the court system. Officer Mizrachi is a hero. He should have been awarded a medal for stopping a violent car thief. Instead, a politicized court and a politicized judge are sending him to prison for 15 months. There he will sit among the common criminals, including perhaps some he himself apprehended. They will make his life a living hell.

Mizrachi’s crime?  He did his job!

In July 2006, Officer Mizrachi saw a car thief stealing a car in Pardes Hana. It turns out though that the thief was an Arab from nearby Baqa al-Garbiya, one Mahmoud Ganaim. Officer Mizrachi shot the thief, who died from the wound. The thief, Ganaim, tried to stab Mizrachi with a screwdriver before the cop shot him.

But in post-survivalist Israel the court system seems to believe that Arabs should not be expected to obey the law and Jews should never be permitted to stop them from committing crimes. You may recall the farmer from the Negev, Shai Dromi, who shot at three Bedouin thieves trying to steal his sheep and killed one. He was harassed and indicted by the Attorney General and convicted of manslaughter, although recently cleared on appeal.

From the beginning, the Media anointed him Messiah – The Chosen One. Last week, on MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews, Newsweek editor Evan Thomas named Him God. The Fourth Estate today consists of overpaid, over-exposed, ignorant sycophants.  If you listen carefully, you can hear Matthews endorse the divination. I would hereby like to nominate Professor Carlo Strenger, from the department of psychology at Tel Aviv University, for the Philistine of the Year Award.

Strenger is a far-leftist hater of Israel and Zionism who regularly explains to Haaretz readers why Israel is a horrible state unworthy of existence, but the Hamas is really misunderstood (A collection of Strengerism can be found here). But today Strenger goes beyond that to support hooligan violence against Orthodox Jews! Really!

The background to this is the continuing campaign of intimidation and violence by ultra-secularists in Ramat Aviv, where Strenger lives and where his Tel Aviv University is located, against Orthodox Jews. The International Women’s Commission is yet another of those bash-Israel NGOs (non-governmental organizations) that pretend to be pursuing peace neutrally, whereas in reality they are promoting the agenda of Palestinian genocidal terrorists. It is different from the countless other groups because it consists of women. Naturally, it wants to achieve a peace that involves creation of a new state of “Palestine” and naturally it refuses to acknowledge any right at all by Israel to defend its own civilians from Islamofascist barbarism and Palestinian terror, not even its right to protect Israeli women. Its “narrative” of the Arab-Israeli conflict can be read here and is identical to that of the Hamas, except when it comes to proclamations about how important and nice women are. Even more significant is the fact that the goings on there were exposed and implicitly criticized by none other than Akiva Eldar in Haaretz on May 12, 2009. It is not the fault of the Arabs, the Muslims, the Jews or Judaism. Everybody lived in peace and harmony until the Zionists came. His grandmother told him how Muslims and Jews babysat each others children in the good old days, when Palestine was ruled by Muslims. This clown gets his fifteen minutes on Al Jazeera. In fluent Arabic he argues that the Jews were happy as Dhimmis under Muslim rule. If the Jews would only let the Arabs run things there will be peace.

Let’s hope he does not live in Israel. We would not want anybody to hurt him or break his giant glasses.
