Avatar is the kind of movie you get when you liberate a bunch of crazed Hollywood lefties from all financial constraints. With a $240 million budget, James Cameron managed to squeeze  every last Marxist fantasy into three hours of boring propaganda.

With the plot conveniently available on the Internet and no first rank stars, the balk of the money went into producing the special effects, with very impressive results. Not impressive enough, however, to offset the endless flow of anti-American, anti-capitalist, global warming claptrap.

The plot goes something like this. Capitalism, global warming and war destroy earth. Capitalists, aided by the Military, try to do the same to the beautiful, breath-taking planet Pandora. They are after – wait for it – unobtainium, because it sells for $20 million dollars a kilogram on the open market- about the same as a Hollywood star. Toronto had a film festival highlighting movies about Tel Aviv.  You’d think a city that pre-dates the Jewish State, one not in the “occupied territories” would not be controversial.  Guess what?  Jane Fonda, Danny Glover and Eve Ensler (that basket case) Naomi Klein, Alice Walker  etc. are protesting, signing a letter which says: “we are deeply disturbed by [TIFF's] decision to host a celebratory spotlight on Tel Aviv,” the letter begins. “We protest that TIFF, whether intentionally or not, has become complicit in the Israeli propaganda machine…we object to the use of such an important international festival in staging a propaganda campaign on behalf of … an apartheid regime.”

And now, the festival’s director, Cameron Bailey, whose good idea it was in the first place to focus on Tel Aviv, has backed down, calling Tel Aviv “contested ground” and vowing: “to learn more about the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.”  Contested by whom?  The Hamas?

I happen to be one of those people who think that death does not get someone off the hook for having dabbled in anti-Semitism. With the whole world of pop and preadolescence in shock over the death of singer Michael Jackson, it behooves us to remind you all that Mikey also was prone to outbursts of anti-Semitism. This was many years before the reports that he was getting interested in Islam and building a mosque in Bahrain. Ynet News reports that Oprah Winfrey (which probably should be spelled Wingfry) will be waddling into town.

Oprah has a history of running Israel-bashing pro-Palestinian articles in a magazine she publishes: “O” Magazine. She also has made insensitive and ignorant comments about the Holocaust.

Whenever the subject of terrorism is broached on her show, Oprah studiously avoids allowing anyone to link it to Palestinians or the Hizbollah. She interviewed mothers of suicide bombers who were distraught because their houses were bulldozed. There was no mention of Israeli babies murdered in cold blood, pizza parlors blown up, or Jewish teens slaughtered in a Tel Aviv disco. Not even the Jews murdered when two guests of the International Solidarity Movement blew up Mike’s Place in Tel Aviv.

Debbie Schlussel has dubbed her the affable Joseph Goebbels of daytime talk TV. Columnist Naomi Ragen demolished Oprah for her politicized bias. The Anti-Defamation League has denounced her for bias, noting that ‘Palestinian girls will be rescued when their leaders say “No” to the incitement, hate and violence that has permeated their political and cultural landscape for years now.’

Maybe she can analyze the problems of self-esteem among suicide bombers and other terrorists. Israel may need Doctor Phil to treat us after Oprah leaves town, to return to her bored overeating overspending housewives with the closet reorganization crises.
