Back in the 1990s I invented the term, “Bibi Peresyahu” to refer to the prime Ministership of Bibi Netanyahu back then. At the time, Netanyahu was trying to outdo the Israeli Labor Party and Shimon Peres in pursuing the Oslo “peace process.” Netanyahu made concessions even Peres had refused to make, like turning Hebron over to the savages.

He signed the “Wye Accord,” after which I dubbed him the Wye’s Man of Chelm. In domestic matters he refused to do anything serious to break up the bank cartel or reform the capital market. His main concern was to be liked by the Israeli leftist media, and that concern caused him to shift to the Left. The same concern later led Ariel Sharon by the nose to the Left and to capitulation to Hamas in Gaza.

Well, Bibi Peresyahu is back. He keeps freezing Jewish building in Jerusalem and its surroundings. A few days ago he announced his backing for a series of anti-economic populist policy measures favored by the ultra-Left, like raising the minimum wage and subsidizing water consumption. Yesterday Peresyahu came out AGAINST any parliamentary investigation of leftwing seditious anti-Israel NGOs operating in Israel. When asked why he is suddenly against this very popular proposal he had earlier supported, Netanyahu without blinking replied, “But what will the goyim (nations) say.” Really. Never mind that the nations have lots of similar laws operating in their own countries for NGOs receiving foreign funding. In the US, any group getting foreign funding has to register as a lobbyist for a foreign entity.

Maybe Bibi can attend the J Street conference so that the Left will like him more?

Israel vs. Iran vs. Obama

If history has taught us anything, it is that when fanatics announce their intention to kill Jews as soon as they get the means to do it, and then get the means, they kill Jews.

Iran’s current government of evil fanatics (evil being defined as “willing to kill anyone to remake the world as they think it should be”) has repeatedly announced its intention to destroy Tel Aviv, Israel’s most populous and most Jewish city, as soon as Iran has nukes and a delivery mechanism.

A nuclear explosion over Tel Aviv would spread killing fallout over much of the region. Israel’s population would be cut approximately in half. Israel cannot afford to absorb a first strike and only retaliate afterward.

A nuclear-armed Iran is not only a danger to Israel, it is a danger to the whole world. It will immediately become de facto ruler of most of the nearby Arab oil producing countries, with a stranglehold on world oil production and prices. These Arab nations have been counting on the United States to block Iran’s nuclear program.

But Obama, ignoring the needs and wishes of Jewish and Arab states alike, has made it obvious that he is more interested in “containing” a nuclear Iran than in preventing it.

Ophir Pines is a politician whom I really love to hate. He is an obnoxious leftist McCarthyist. He led the Labor Party’s campaign against freedom of speech for anti-Oslo dissidents. After Rabin’s assassination, Pines led each and every Labor Party attempt to indict members of the political opposition for supposedly being collectively guilty of Rabin’s death, and he led the camp claiming that exercise of freedom of speech by Right-wingers was what ultimately produced the Rabin assassination. He repeatedly filed court petitions against Righists expressing opinions.

Pines was considered until yesterday, when he resigned from the Knesset, to be the up-and-coming Young Turk, the Bonnie Prince Churly, and next-generation-leader of the Labor Party. He had come in at the very top of Labor Party internal primaries. This – in spite of his total absence of charisma and his lack of any sense of humor. Pines looks like a young Montgomery Burns, and has yet to be seen cracking a smile.

“Pines” is actually a common name for German Jews. It is however pronounced in German and Hebrew, and I kid you not about this, “Penis.” Some members of the clan spell the name as it sounds, making their peace with the jokes. Others, including young Ophir, prefer the PG spelling – PINES. In any case, his name is pronounced Offer Penis, and for many years I respond to anyone mentioning his name with, “Sure, just not my own.” Wouldn’t it be cool if he had married a woman named Fanny Prostate?

So just what induced Prince Penis to abandon the Labor Party? I think the answer is pretty clear.  Rodents never stay aboard sinking ships. The Labor Party has sunk from a hegemonic single-party ruling class, running the state all on its own, to squeezing into the last Knesset as the 4^th largest power. It is possibly about to split into two even smaller splinters.

The Labor Party has very simply been completely wrong about nearly every single matter on which it has taken a public stand. First and foremost, of course, the Labor Party bears direct responsibility for the Oslo debacle and all the existential damage it has done to the Jewish people. Israeli Soldiers On Guard Against Islamist Terrorists in Gaza

A wide range of Israelis, from Ehud Olmert’s communist wife to terror enabling Professor Neve Gordon, would see this as a cost cutting opportunity. It would eliminate the need to issue guns and ammunition to soldiers. For practice, troops would play hide and seek.

You can’t make this stuff up. In 2008, an Israeli court ruled that IDF soldiers should hide rather than fight when approached by the enemy. The court feared that a violent response by soldiers may increase the risk of bodily harm befalling unsuspecting terrorists. On Thursday, the Supreme Court overruled the lower court’s decision. Two Jewish justices voted for fighting. An Arab justice voted in favor of hiding.

Toronto had a film festival highlighting movies about Tel Aviv.  You’d think a city that pre-dates the Jewish State, one not in the “occupied territories” would not be controversial.  Guess what?  Jane Fonda, Danny Glover and Eve Ensler (that basket case) Naomi Klein, Alice Walker  etc. are protesting, signing a letter which says: “we are deeply disturbed by [TIFF's] decision to host a celebratory spotlight on Tel Aviv,” the letter begins. “We protest that TIFF, whether intentionally or not, has become complicit in the Israeli propaganda machine…we object to the use of such an important international festival in staging a propaganda campaign on behalf of … an apartheid regime.”

And now, the festival’s director, Cameron Bailey, whose good idea it was in the first place to focus on Tel Aviv, has backed down, calling Tel Aviv “contested ground” and vowing: “to learn more about the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.”  Contested by whom?  The Hamas?

Without getting into the question of why, it should by now be obvious to anybody paying attention that Obama has bent American foreign policy in a decidedly pro-Islamist direction. The submissive bow to King Abdullah and the humiliating apologies in Cairo would be sufficient evidence. Brutal verbal attacks on the State of Israel and denial of the right of Jews to live in their historic homeland complete the picture. Even traditionally Liberal Jews are getting it now! Barack Hussein Obama empathizes with his late father whose roots are in Muslim Kenya. His extensive Muslim family lives in Kenya, including his father’s second, third and fourth wives and their numerous children. Obama is a Kenyan who by some divine retribution was inflicted on the American people as President of the United States. 

So are the Jews of Israel doomed? Not necessarily! Haaretz, the Palestinian daily published in Hebrew and English, reports it as a bad thing, but apparently the “militant settlers” are both inclined and well positioned to stop the madness. Officer Shahar Mizrachi is the latest victim of the leftist assault on Israel via the court system. Officer Mizrachi is a hero. He should have been awarded a medal for stopping a violent car thief. Instead, a politicized court and a politicized judge are sending him to prison for 15 months. There he will sit among the common criminals, including perhaps some he himself apprehended. They will make his life a living hell.

Mizrachi’s crime?  He did his job!

In July 2006, Officer Mizrachi saw a car thief stealing a car in Pardes Hana. It turns out though that the thief was an Arab from nearby Baqa al-Garbiya, one Mahmoud Ganaim. Officer Mizrachi shot the thief, who died from the wound. The thief, Ganaim, tried to stab Mizrachi with a screwdriver before the cop shot him.

But in post-survivalist Israel the court system seems to believe that Arabs should not be expected to obey the law and Jews should never be permitted to stop them from committing crimes. You may recall the farmer from the Negev, Shai Dromi, who shot at three Bedouin thieves trying to steal his sheep and killed one. He was harassed and indicted by the Attorney General and convicted of manslaughter, although recently cleared on appeal.
