‘York U. CUPE local continues to push anti-Israel agenda,’
says B’nai Brith Canada
TORONTO, May 19, 2009 – B’nai Brith Canada has called on members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) local 3903, which represents faculty, teaching assistants, and graduate assistants at York University, to turn out for tomorrow’s meeting to oppose the radical anti-Israel agenda that is being advanced. Topping the agenda of the May 20th General Membership Meeting will be the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign against Israel.
“The campaign to delegitimize the Jewish State has become the now all-too familiar refrain of CUPE leadership, which appears poised yet again to set its sights on vilifying Israel,” said Frank Dimant, B’nai Brith Canada’s Executive Vice President. “This time around the campaign is being spearheaded by CUPE local 3903 of York University, the same university which we know has become a hotbed for anti-Israel activity.
“We call on CUPE members to take back the union apparatus from its leaders who appear bent on squandering precious resources on a destructive agenda that does nothing to further the core interests of its members. Tough economic times should dictate real solutions to pressing matters and not be overshadowed by propaganda campaigns, which are inherently racist and discriminatory.
“We call on the greater York University community to ensure that their campus is not a stomping ground for a new round of anti-Israel hatred.”
