It did not start out badly. In the beginning there were Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and John Ashcroft. They couldn’t get rid of Cheney but the others morphed into Condi, Gates, and Chertoff. You just can’t have enough “compassionate conservatives” in the administration. Other than Norman Mineta, has there ever been a less inspiring cabinet level bureaucrat than Chertoff?
