The State Department bureaucrats’ last big idea, bringing democracy to Pakistan with the aid of Benazir Bhutto, worked out so well, they couldn’t but feel ready to tackle something more challenging. Thus, they decided to create life… oops, sorry, wrong miracle story. For their next trick, the Fogy Bottoms internationalists will bring peace to the Middle East, with the clock running, in twelve months or less.
The Bush administration expects a “peace” agreement to be signed before it leaves office January 20, 2009 at high noon. Abbas and Olmert will negotiate to resolve the core issues to Bush’s satisfaction.
PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas announced Sunday that Israel and the PA would begin negotiations over the “core issues” of the conflict, including Jerusalem, on Monday. The talks will be held between Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and PA negotiator Ahmed Qureia (Abu Ala).Official sources in Jerusalem confirmed the report.
Abbas said the talks would revolve around six issues: “Jerusalem, the settlements, the Palestinian refugees, borders, security and water sources.” He added: “If we reach agreement on these issues, you could say we have an agreement.”
Jewish refugees will not be on the agenda; neither will Arab settlements. The Palestinian indoctrination machine that breeds a new generation of Jew-killers every 16 years is definitely off limits.
At the King David Hotel on January 10, 2008, Bush presented his vision on how the core issues should be resolved. The Olmert administration understands its marching orders. Prince Ehud must lead his people into the desert and stay there; there is no promised land. Bush’s actions represent a complete betrayal of Israel, the Jewish people and the Evangelical Christians who twice helped elect him President. Pastor John Hagee could not be happy with W. right now.
Decoding Bush’s self deception reveals the full extent of the betrayal. His “vision” leads to nothing less than the destruction of Israel as a Jewish state. No other good Bush achieves as President can possibly make up for this predictable outcome.
The speech with our deprogramming notes is presented in its entirety here.
President Bush Discusses Israeli-Palestinian Peace Process
King David Hotel
Jerusalem5:27 P.M. (LOCAL)
THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon. I’d like to, first, thank Prime Minister Olmert and President Abbas for their hospitality during my trip here to the Holy Land. We had very good meetings, and now is the time to make difficult choices.
I underscored to both Prime Minister Olmert and President Abbas that progress needs to be made on four parallel tracks. First, both sides need to fulfill their commitments under the road map. Second, the Palestinians need to build their economy and their political and security institutions. And to do that, they need the help of Israel, the region, and the international community. Third, I reiterate my appreciation for the Arab League peace initiative, and I call upon the Arab countries to reach out to Israel, a step that is long overdue.
The road map requires that the Palestinians stop terrorism before proceeding to the next step. By his very insistence on negotiating, while terror activities continue unabated, Bush demonstrates the vapidity of his road map demand. Palestinians are not opposed to economic prosperity, as long as it does not interfere with Jew-killing. That is why they are poor and despondent in the first place. Urging Israel to provide cash and military muscle to help the Jew-killers prosper is offensive. The pathetic plea to the Arabian princes to assist in the grand deception is less than meaningless. How is any of this good for the Jews or America?
In addition to these three tracks, both sides are getting down to the business of negotiating. I called upon both leaders to make sure their teams negotiate seriously, starting right now. I strongly supported the decision of the two leaders to continue their regular summit meetings, because they are the ones who can, and must, and — I am convinced — will lead.
I share with these two leaders the vision of two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security. Both of these leaders believe that the outcome is in the interest of their peoples and are determined to arrive at a negotiated solution to achieve it.
Bush is probably lying for what he believes to be a good cause.
Abbas does not share Bush’s fantasy and Bush knows it. For 40 years, Abbas toiled as Yassir Arafat’s apprentice in the Fatah gang, an offshoot of the extremely violent Muslim Brotherhood (which also fathered the equally violent Al Qaeda). His sole interest in the “peace” process is to maximize the land, power and cash he gets in stage one. Later, protected by national sovereignty, he will build an army of trained and well equipped Jihadis to execute stage two.
Arafat made no secret of being inspired by the Prophet Muhammad, who in 628 AD negotiated a ten year hudna with the Quraysh tribe, only to break it two years later. When he was ready, Muhammad assembled a large army, tore up the truce agreement, attacked and was victorious. On May 10, 1994, Arafat said, “I see this agreement as being no more than the agreement signed between our Prophet Muhammad and the Quraysh in Mecca … we now accept the peace agreement, but [only in order] to continue on the road to Jerusalem.”
All but the blind can see that Palestine is even less likely to be democratic than are Iraq, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia. Moreover, democratically elected Islamists don’t lose their appetite for Jews-killing. Remember, Hamas was freely elected.
The point of departure for permanent status negotiations to realize this vision seems clear: There should be an end to the occupation that began in 1967. The agreement must establish Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people, just as Israel is a homeland for the Jewish people. These negotiations must ensure that Israel has secure, recognized, and defensible borders. And they must ensure that the state of Palestine is viable, contiguous, sovereign, and independent.
Wow! Bush has totally bought the Palestinian narrative. In 1967, brave Israeli soldiers, at great sacrifice, liberated Biblical Judea and Samaria from Arab invaders, who occupied it for 1000 of the previous 1300 years. Similarly, in 1492, the Reconquista ended with Christian warriors liberating Spain from 800 years of Muslim occupation. By Bush’s logic, Spain is currently occupied by Christians.
The Palestinian People are the Arab occupiers of Judea and Samaria, just like the Moors were the Muslim occupiers of Al-Andalus. Does Bush believe that the Moors have a claim to a homeland on the Iberian Peninsula?
Beyond the semantic word fencing, the real problem here is that a viable, contiguous, sovereign, and independent Palestine is provably incompatible with a secure, recognized, and defensible Israel. Check out this amateur map of Palestine at Atlas Shrugs. Only one of the two states can be contiguous. If Israel is not contiguous then it is not secure. Therefore, by simple mathematical logic, a contiguous Palestine and a secure Israel can not exist simultaneously. It is also true that a non-contiguous Palestine can not be secure. Thus, only one of the two states can be contiguous and therefore secure. Bush simply sides with the Arabs. That’s all!
It is vital that each side understands that satisfying the other’s fundamental objectives is key to a successful agreement. Security for Israel and viability for the Palestinian state are in the mutual interests of both parties.
It is in the best interest of Israel to send the Arabs back to Arabia. Second choice would be a weak and non-viable Palestinian state that can easily be controlled when it misbehaves. Since the Arab occupiers of Judea and Samaria aim to destroy the Jewish state, an insecure Israel is in their best interest.
Achieving an agreement will require painful political concessions by both sides. While territory is an issue for both parties to decide, I believe that any peace agreement between them will require mutually agreed adjustments to the armistice lines of 1949 to reflect current realities and to ensure that the Palestinian state is viable and contiguous. I believe we need to look to the establishment of a Palestinian state and new international mechanisms, including compensation, to resolve the refugee issue.
After the gibberish about the 1949 armistice line, Bush reveals once again that he has bought the Palestinian narrative, hook, line, and sinker. On behalf of Israel, the USA, and the international community, he accepts responsibility for the UNRWA created refugees. This lends credibility to the refugee hoax and buttresses the phony right of return claim. Bush is casually playing dice with the fate of six million Jews by implementing the recommedations of the well known anti-Semite, James Baker.
If Bush was smart and courageous, he would have demanded that the so called refugees be resettled with their brethren in Arab countries.
I reaffirm to each leader that implementation of any agreement is subject to implementation of the road map. Neither party should undertake any activity that contravenes road map obligations or prejudices the final status negotiations. On the Israeli side that includes ending settlement expansion and removing unauthorized outposts. On the Palestinian side that includes confronting terrorists and dismantling terrorist infrastructure.
Again, the demand to stop terrorism is completely negated by the fact that Bush is negotiating, arming, and financing the terrorists, even as they terrorize. On the other hand, the demand to dismantle Israeli settlements is actionable. Olmert is ready and willing to evict Jews from their homes. We can only hope that our Christian friends will scream bloody murder and try to stop this insanity.
I know Jerusalem is a tough issue. Both sides have deeply felt political and religious concerns. I fully understand that finding a solution to this issue will be one of the most difficult challenges on the road to peace, but that is the road we have chosen to walk.
If Bush was a Warrior President, if he understood Islam and the Arab mind, he would have, at this point, stated categorically that Jerusalem belongs to the Jews and will remain the undivided capital of Israel. “I read it in my Bible” he would have said. End of debate. Take it or leave it. That would have created a real opportunity for peace.
Security is fundamental. No agreement and no Palestinian state will be born of terror. I reaffirm America’s steadfast commitment to Israel’s security.
Since Bush is so eager to create a Palestinian state, come hell or high water, these are but platitudes. Everybody knows that the Palestinian state will be born because of terror, not despite it and definitely not because terror ceased. The fact that Bush was in Jerusalem pleading, even as terrorist rockets were raining down on Sderot, is proof enough.
The establishment of the state of Palestine is long overdue. The Palestinian people deserve it. And it will enhance the stability of the region, and it will contribute to the security of the people of Israel. The peace agreement should happen, and can happen, by the end of this year. I know each leader shares that important goal, and I am committed to doing all I can to achieve it.
Thank you.
END 5:32 P.M. (Local)
Somebody should have asked Bush by what calendar a Palestinian state was overdue and precisely what the Palestinian people did to deserve it. Was it the daily Jew-killings? Was it the killing of Americans? What?
As to the other points in the paragraph:
It will enhance the stability of the region. Like the creation of a democratic Iraq did?
It will contribute to the security of the people of Israel. Like the creation of a free Gaza did?
The peace agreement should happen, and can happen, by the end of this year. Lie, lie, and lie!
I know each leader shares that important goal (lie) and I am committed to doing all I can to achieve it (yes, keep tilting at the windmills).
