In his must read book, America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It, author Mark Steyn describes a September 12, 2001 scene in which British Muslim “youths” celebrated America’s defeat. Enthusiastic youths cheered for al-Qaeda and banged on the “bonnets” of passing cars demanding that the passengers join them in praising Osama bin Laden. The cowed Englishmen went home feeling humiliated and helpless. The youths could not be blamed for feeling that they will rule Britain one day. Muslim youths do not try stunts like that in Texas because they are likely to get their heads blown off. Even in Vermont, the driver may reach for the semi-automatic in the glove compartment.
Americans have what it takes to stand up to the Islamists. Stories like this one from the Dallas Morning News are comforting.
Police: Dallas security guard with assault rifle kills two

Dallas police said that an Oak Cliff security guard armed with an assault rifle shot two suspected robbers Wednesday night in a strip mall near Executive Airport.
Police said the incident began around 11:30 p.m. and were investigating the likelihood that three people were attempting to rob the security guard in the shopping area in the 2200 block of West Red Bird Lane. Officers believed the three people confronted the security guard and that the guard fired his assault rife during that confrontation.
One man was shot dead at the scene. Police said a second person was also hit by a bullet, but jumped into a car to escape. That person drove away erratically and crashed the car not far from the scene of the shooting, police said. The second person also died. Police believe a third person ran from the scene during the shooting and has not been found.
Police said it was unlikely that the guard would be charged in the deaths.
A second reassuring story regards the death of a sex offender who used a fake identity to get a job in a Middle School. Police are recording it as accidental suicide. The sex offender apparently stuck his head in a plastic bag and suffocated, accidentally.

A 40-year-old registered sex offender who was a custodian at Chisholm Trail Middle School was found dead Tuesday morning in a school locker room.
Authorities believe Jose Hector Cortes-Lopez, who was convicted last year of indecent exposure, accidentally died from asphyxiation. He was found with a bag over his head at the school in the Wise County town of Rhome.
Chisholm Trail principal Rob Thornell said he believes Mr. Cortes-Lopez had worked for the custodial company GCA Services Group for about five months. Mr. Cortes-Lopez was able to pass a background check because he used an alias, Hector Garza, and was hired under that name.
Northwest school district spokeswoman Lesley Weaver said GCA finished fingerprinting all its employees Wednesday.
